Great researchs

The Bazin family forms one of the cornerstones of French bowmaking. Apart from a few articles which have appeared here and there, or an exhibition at Mirecourt during the 1990s, no serious work has been undertaken on the family, which remains emblematic of French bowmaking.

Jean-François Raffin, Sylvain Bigot and Yannick Le Canu, internationally recognised experts, have worked with a musicologist - Lothaire Mabru – and another bowmaker, with a passion for research on the history of bowmaking in Mirecourt – Arthur Dubroca – to complete this project unique for a monograph dedicated to the Bazin family.

Together they have returned to the basis of their knowledge, questioned their certainties and consulted the original sources to validate all the informations which has come down to us of the generations.

They have studied, compared and selected hundreds of bows; through their research they have discovered many hitherto unpublished documents …The result is a book which is essential reading not just for professionals in the instrument making world, but also for all lovers of instruments and bows.
